A solar panel spends its life chasing the sun — or rather, it should. The sun sweeps across the sky every day, but most panels sit fixed, tilted at a single angle, quietly leaving energy on the table while the light moves on. Solar trackers solve that: they turn the panel itself into something that follows the sun. For years, the best tracking systems on Indian solar farms arrived from abroad. Now a Pune company with more than six decades of engineering heritage behind it is bringing the whole machine home.

Premium Motion Private Limited unveiled what the company describes as India’s first fully indigenous, AI-enabled, cost-effective integrated dual-axis solar tracking solution at the Renewable Energy India (REI) Expo 2026, held at the India Expo Centre & Mart in Greater Noida on 23 October 2026. The unveiling was done by Rajesh Goyal, Business Head of ISGEC Heavy Engineering Limited, and Neeraj Bisaria, Managing Director and President of the Premium Group. Premium Motion is part of the Premium Group — an engineering-led group with over 66 years of manufacturing legacy whose flagship, Premium Transmission Limited, is a global name in power transmission.

The product’s philosophy is summed up in the company’s line: “Intelligence That Tracks the Sun. Performance That Powers More.” At its heart is a Three-Level Redundant Tracking System that the company says keeps panels locked onto the sun with remarkable accuracy. It fuses three tracking inputs — AI cameras that watch the sky, GPS, and time-based solar-position tracking — backed by on-board inclination sensing and real-time feedback. If one input falters, the others keep the panel on target.

That tracking intelligence is wrapped in an ecosystem designed for the realities of Indian solar farms. An independent-row architecture with backtracking reduces shading between rows and adapts to uneven terrain. An integrated weather-monitoring system measures wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity, rainfall and atmospheric pressure, and the trackers move themselves into safe positions when storms roll in. The company says the solution has been tested across the solar-belt regions of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan.

The “integrated” in the name does a lot of work. Through wireless LoRa connectivity and an integrated SCADA and cloud platform, operators can monitor performance, manage alarms, issue commands and run multiple sites remotely. Predictive diagnostics flag potential issues before they become failures, and waterless robotic cleaning can be scheduled around weather, dust and soiling conditions — a meaningful advantage in a country where every litre of water saved matters. On its own website, Premium Motion also lists the hardware building blocks it makes: high-torque slew drives, dampers, precision linear actuators, and Premium Bot, its AI-driven waterless panel-cleaning technology.

What sets the launch apart, the company says, is the combination of cost-effectiveness with fully in-house development — mechanical systems, electronics and software all engineered in India, supported by a dedicated technology centre in Pune and a manufacturing setup at Chakan, Pune. Extended after-sales support runs through Premium Care, with a service presence across India, the Middle East, South Africa and the Americas. It is the kind of vertically-integrated play that only a group with 66 years of motion-and-transmission engineering in its DNA could attempt.

India is racing to build hundreds of gigawatts of solar capacity, and every percentage point of extra energy yield from a plant compounds across millions of panels. A tracker that is designed in India, manufactured in India, maintained across the globe and smart enough to protect itself from a desert storm is exactly the kind of machine the country’s solar mission needs. The sun moves; now, so do India’s panels — on Indian engineering.
