Every battery pack on the road or on a rooftop is two things at once: the cells that store the energy, and the circuit board that watches over them. That board — the battery management system — monitors every cell, balances the charge between them, tracks temperature, and cuts the pack off before anything goes wrong. It is, as Hyderabad-based Xbattery Energy puts it, the brain of the battery. And for years, India has imported most of those brains even while assembling battery packs at scale.
Xbattery Energy was founded in August 2024 at Hyderabad’s T-Hub by Satish Reddy, Sonu Mishra and Varshith Rao to change exactly that — to design and manufacture battery management electronics in India, with Indian firmware the customer can actually change, and local support when something goes wrong. “BharatBMS is more than just a technology, it’s our commitment to India’s clean energy transition,” says Sonu Mishra, the company’s co-founder and CTO. “By building a robust battery backbone, we’re reducing import reliance and setting global standards for safety and performance.”
The flagship platform, BharatBMS, is a unified high-voltage battery management architecture that scales from 5 kWh home setups to megawatt-scale energy storage. It comes in 51.2V, 72V and 110V versions, with configurations reaching up to 1500V, and supports both LFP and NMC chemistries. The company’s portfolio spans e-rickshaws, light commercial vehicles, cars, SUVs, buses and trucks on the mobility side, and UPS systems, telecom infrastructure, commercial and industrial storage, and grid-scale installations on the stationary side — with cell monitoring, balancing, thermal management, state-of-charge and state-of-health estimation, fault diagnostics and safety protection across all of them.

The engineering pitch is that smarter electronics squeeze more life out of the same cells. BharatBMS brings adaptive cell balancing, real-time state-of-charge monitoring to prevent overcharging, advanced thermal management, remote diagnostics and AI/ML-enabled modes for predictive outage response — and the company says the precision of its charge and health measurement, combined with efficient hardware, extends battery life by up to 15 percent. Automatic software upgrades keep the system improving after installation.
The whole stack is, in the company’s words, “designed and manufactured in India with local components.” That matters because dependence runs deep: China accounts for more than 40 percent of India’s BMS imports and around 60 percent of global exports in the segment. With BharatBMS, Xbattery is offering a universal high-voltage BMS architecture developed, manufactured and serviced domestically — firmware the customer controls, spares that don’t wait on a ship.
The platform’s first showcase product is the XB-5K, a 5 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate energy storage system for homes and small offices launched in February 2026. The 37 kg plug-and-play unit switches instantly between grid and backup, runs household appliances and office equipment including air conditioners, and scales to 15 kWh by adding two extra battery modules. With app-based control, solar compatibility and real-time analytics, it works, as Satish Reddy describes it, “like an advanced home powerbank” — the company says it can deliver backup for up to 24 hours depending on load.
Xbattery has raised $2.3 million in seed funding led by the Bipin Patel Family Office with participation from Jhaveri Credits, and today employs 41 to 60 people working with automotive manufacturers and energy storage integrators. It was named one of Inc42’s Manufacturing Startups to Watch in October 2026.
India spent a decade assembling battery packs around imported electronics. Xbattery is betting that the next decade belongs to whoever builds the brain inside the box — and that building it in Hyderabad, for Indian heat, Indian grids and Indian duty cycles, is the way to win it.
