Picture a Singapore city street at rush hour: a quiet, zero-emission bus glides past, its driver guided by cameras and sensors that watch for pedestrians, cyclists and lane markings, while its fleet team back at the depot sees the health of every vehicle in real time. That is the everyday picture JBM Electric Vehicles is bringing to the Asia-Pacific region with the ECOLIFE e12, its all-electric city bus, launched in Singapore on 4 November 2026 at Singapore Urban Mobility Week 2026.

JBM Electric Vehicles, the flagship company of the USD 4.0 billion Indian conglomerate JBM Group, launched the ECOLIFE e12 in the presence of Dr Shilpak Ambule, High Commissioner of India to Singapore, and Nishant Arya, Chairman of JBM Electric Vehicles. Alongside the launch, the company established its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Singapore, a hub that will serve as its central base for marketing and sales, aftersales, operations and partnerships across the region.
Built light, built for the city
The ECOLIFE e12 is built around a lightweight monocoque full-aluminium body structure, an engineering choice that keeps the bus light and efficient for stop-start city duty. It carries an Intelligent Transport System compliant with Singapore’s regulatory requirements, and advanced telematics that give fleet operators round-the-clock access to the vehicle’s state of health, so maintenance can be planned before a small issue becomes a missed service.
That combination matters enormously for city transport. A bus that is light, connected and easy to look after spends more time on the road carrying passengers and less time in the workshop — and for a city bus, every extra hour in service is an hour of cleaner, quieter streets.

Safety that watches every angle
The ECOLIFE e12 is equipped with JBM’s Advanced Driver-Assistance System, which the company says helps the driver detect obstacles and checks for driver errors. The safety suite includes forward vehicle collision warning, lane departure warning, pedestrian and cyclist collision warning and blind-spot detection, along with driver drowsiness and distraction warnings, a 360-degree camera system and a fire detection and suppression system. The vehicle also incorporates protection against cyberattacks, a fitting touch for a bus that is as much a connected computer as a machine.
For passengers, that means a calmer ride. For drivers, it means an extra set of eyes on the busiest streets. And for cities, it means a bus designed from the start for the realities of dense urban traffic.
An Indian bus builder going global
The Singapore launch caps a remarkable run of scale for JBM Electric Vehicles. The ECOLIFE e12 was first shown at Busworld 2025 in Brussels, and its Singapore debut now takes the bus into the Asia-Pacific market. The company says it operates one of the world’s largest dedicated integrated electric bus manufacturing facilities in India, with an annual production capacity of 20,000 electric buses, and an order book of 10,000 electric buses to be deployed globally over the next two years. It reports more than 4,000 electric buses already operating across different markets, a fleet that has cumulatively covered more than 500 million kilometres and carried over 1.5 billion passengers.
Behind the bus sits JBM’s E-Verse ecosystem, the company’s end-to-end electric mobility offering spanning fast-charging infrastructure, lithium-ion batteries, energy storage systems and power infrastructure, all designed in India for the world. “Our mission is to decarbonise public transport by creating new and sustainable global benchmarks,” Arya said at the launch. “At JBM EV, we believe that the future of green mobility lies in creating vehicles that seamlessly blend innovation, sustainability and user-centric design.”
With its Asia-Pacific headquarters now open in Singapore and the ECOLIFE e12 rolling out to the region, JBM Electric Vehicles is taking Indian-built electric buses to some of the world’s most demanding city streets — and showing that the future of urban transport can be designed and made in India.
