Inside almost every switchboard, smart meter and electric vehicle power system sits a tiny component most people never see. It measures current to the milliamp, bends predictably with heat, and switches power on and off thousands of times without faltering. A large share of the world’s best versions of these components are made in Solan, Himachal Pradesh, by Shivalik Bimetal Controls Limited.
Founded in 1984, Shivalik has spent four decades perfecting a craft that looks simple and is anything but: joining different metals so precisely that they behave exactly as engineered, year after year, in the harshest duty cycles. The company says its products operate inside electrical, electronics, automotive, industrial, switchgear, smart metering, battery management and energy management systems — the quiet infrastructure of modern life.
Three product families, one obsession with precision
Shivalik’s story is built on three core families. Thermostatic bimetal and trimetal strips — two or more layers of alloys bonded together, each expanding differently with heat — bend with temperature to open and close circuits, protect against overheating and control temperature in switchgear, geysers, irons and automotive thermostats.
Its low-ohmic shunt resistors, made with electron beam welding, are the current-sensing heart of battery management systems, intelligent battery sensors, smart meters, solar charge controllers and power modules. The company says they are characterised by a low temperature coefficient, high stability of electrical resistance, low watt loss and good heat dissipation.
Its electrical contacts complete the trio, enabling the clean on-and-off switching of circuits in circuit breakers, relays, lighting, wire accessories and appliances. Around these cores, Shivalik has added busbar connectors and PCB assemblies, moving steadily from precision materials toward finished, application-ready assemblies.
Process depth is the moat
What sets Shivalik apart, the company says, is process depth. Electron beam welding supports its high-precision shunts; diffusion bonding and cold bonding support its bimetal and trimetal platforms; precision strip processing delivers consistency and yield. The company also develops its machinery and process capabilities in-house, giving it tighter control as it scales capacity.
That discipline shows up in the numbers. The company says its consolidated revenue from operations reached ₹570.9 crore in FY2025-26, up 12.3% year on year, with EBITDA of ₹130.7 crore and profit after tax of ₹95.8 crore. Its two core businesses — shunt resistors and thermostatic bimetals — each contributed more than ₹230 crore of standalone revenue in the year.
From Solan to 38 countries
From manufacturing facilities in Chambaghat and Kather in Solan, and in Pune, with its corporate office in New Delhi, Shivalik serves more than 300 customers, including OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers, across 38 countries. Its team numbers around 1,000 people. Its products travel into electric vehicles, smart meters, switchgear and energy storage systems around the world — Indian precision, qualified to global standards, trusted where failure is not an option.
Shivalik’s next chapter is about going further up the value chain: cell connecting systems, busbar assemblies and PCB assemblies that deepen its role in electrification, smart metering and energy efficiency. It is a fitting direction for a company that began by mastering the smallest, hardest details — and never stopped. In a world racing to electrify everything, the tiny strips, shunts and contacts from Solan will be inside more of it than ever.
