Some of the most important medical breakthroughs never look dramatic. They look like a screening that happens earlier, closer to home, and in time to make all the difference. A Chennai startup has just launched a platform built exactly for that moment.
MEDxAI Innovations, a deep-tech startup incubated at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) Chennai, has officially launched Cervilens, its AI-powered cervical cancer pre-screening and diagnostic support platform. The launch took place on 29 October 2026, facilitated by the Tamil Nadu Technology Hub (iTNT Hub) through its iAccelerate Programme, and was formally launched by Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology and Digital Services.

An AI second pair of eyes for screening
Cervilens is, in the company’s words, an AI-powered digital colposcope. It combines AI-assisted diagnostic colposcopy and cytology with a multi-modal fusion engine, building what the company describes as a dynamically adaptive cervical lesion risk assessment system. In plain language: it pulls together different kinds of screening evidence, analyses them with AI, and gives clinicians a sharper, more consistent read to support their decisions.
The goal, the company says, is smarter screening, better outcomes and lower costs for hospitals, and a screening experience that puts women’s healthcare first. Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers when abnormal changes are caught early, and that is precisely where a fast, consistent, AI-assisted pre-screening step earns its place: helping clinicians spot what needs attention sooner, and helping more women get screened in the first place.
Built to reach far beyond big-city hospitals
One of the most exciting parts of Cervilens is where it is designed to go. The company says the platform can extend screening support through telemedicine, particularly to underserved and remote communities. That matters enormously in a country where specialist expertise is concentrated in cities while millions of women live far from a screening centre. A tool that carries expert-grade support to the last mile turns early detection from a city privilege into something far more widely shared.
The clinical shaping of the platform has been guided by Dr Revathi Ananth, Chief Gynaecologist at A.V. Diagnostics in Chennai, whose mentorship the company credits with helping make Cervilens clinically relevant. Tamil Nadu’s Additional Chief Secretary for Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology and Digital Services was also present at the launch, underlining how seriously the state is taking home-grown health AI.
From a VIT lab to the national stage
MEDxAI was founded by Dr Sheena Christabel Pravin, its CEO and a VIT Chennai faculty member specialising in artificial intelligence, machine learning, medical imaging and biomedical signal processing, together with Dr Reena Monica P, its CTO, who holds a PhD in nanoelectronics and works on sensor miniaturisation and computational intelligence. The startup is incubated at VIT Chennai’s V-NEST, was selected for the iTNT Hub iAccelerate Programme in June 2026, and has received funding assistance from StartupTN.
Just weeks before the launch, the work had already reached the national stage: Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated MEDxAI’s AI healthcare technologies during the inauguration of the Porur Metro Rail project in Chennai on 15 October 2026, where Dr Sheena showcased Cervilens alongside the company’s second flagship platform, Quantum PharmX, an AI-powered drug discovery platform built around molecular analysis and genomic profiling.
That is the arc of this story: research born in a Chennai university lab, shaped with practising clinicians, backed by the state’s innovation ecosystem, and now launched as a platform that could bring earlier, gentler, more accessible cervical cancer screening to women across India. Cervilens is a beautiful example of Indian deep tech aimed at exactly the right problem, and its launch is a moment worth celebrating.
