India is adding solar and wind power faster than almost any country on Earth — and every new megawatt makes one question more urgent: where does the power go when the sun sets? In Hyderabad, a young energy-storage company has just switched on part of the answer. TREX Energy has commissioned a new lithium battery manufacturing facility with a fully automated assembly line, built to turn out the battery systems that let homes, factories and the grid itself store clean energy for when it is needed most.

TREX Energy is a Hyderabad-based energy storage company founded in 2021. Its founder and managing director, Bharat S. Chhittarka, spent more than 13 years working in lithium-ion batteries and over 15 years in China, where he watched the green-energy revolution take shape up close — and came home determined to help build the same momentum in India.

A line that builds batteries by the minute

The new facility, at E-City in Raviryal, Maheshwaram, Hyderabad, was commissioned on 21 September 2026. At its heart is a 12 PPM automatic module assembly line — a line that assembles battery modules at a rate of twelve parts a minute — designed to manufacture 52S battery packs for energy storage systems ranging from 261 kWh to 5 MWh. Automation, the company says, keeps every module consistent and every pack built to the same standard, which is exactly what grid-scale storage demands.

The facility marks TREX Energy’s move from designing and assembling battery systems to manufacturing them at serious scale in India, with storage solutions built for Indian operating conditions and shorter delivery timelines than imported alternatives.

From homes to the grid

TREX Energy’s portfolio spans the full range of energy storage, from 5 kWh home systems to 5 MWh utility-scale installations. Its systems serve homes and home inverters, factories and offices, commercial and industrial facilities, telecom networks and utility-scale renewable projects — the same batteries, scaled up or down for the job at hand. The company also works on sodium-ion batteries alongside its lithium-ion range, keeping an eye on the chemistries that could make storage cheaper still.

“We’re focused on reducing financing costs to make BESS more affordable and reliable for the Indian market,” says Bharat S. Chhittarka, Director of TREX Energy. “Energy must be available when it’s needed, and BESS is a key solution.” Roshan Shaik, the company’s Technical Director, adds that the automated line will support efficient and consistent production of battery modules across every application the company serves.

The team behind it

Behind the plant is a team built around deep battery experience. Chief Operating Officer Srinivas Botla is an IIT Roorkee alumnus with a background in consumer electronics, IoT and e-mobility, while Chief Technology Officer Sanjay Kadam brings more than two decades in electronics and lithium battery pack design, spanning electric vehicles, telecom and energy storage. The company is also advised by a former managing director of BSNL, bringing decades of public-sector telecom experience to its work on power for communication networks.

What comes next

TREX Energy is already planning its second act. The Government of Madhya Pradesh has allotted four acres of land for a Phase 2 facility, extending the company’s manufacturing footprint beyond Telangana. And the company’s longer-term plan is bolder still: its own state-of-the-art battery cell manufacturing plant by 2026–27, which would take TREX from assembling packs to making the cells inside them — another step towards storage that is designed, built and owned in India.

As India’s clean-energy capacity keeps climbing, the batteries that store it matter as much as the panels and turbines that generate it. With its new Hyderabad plant, TREX Energy is putting Indian manufacturing behind that storage — one module, twelve parts a minute, at a time.
